In My Shoes is a non-profit organization in Dallas providing community living within a safe environment. We are focused on assisting women who are pregnant and homeless or at risk of homelessness.
We provide the key foundation towards reaching the ultimate goal - stability and family unity.
In My Shoes is the only community living program in Dallas that provides support specifically towards pregnant, homeless women - while offering life, parenting, and job skills. All women who are struggling with homelessness, faced with the decision of bringing a child into this world, and are in need of a a strong support system from peers and professional counselors are welcome.
Together, we rally around support, not pity. In My Shoes offers an ear, heart-felt respect, and dignity. Because being a mom means striving for family empowerment and a greater purpose - love beyond one's self.
This program was created by those who have walked a mile in the shoes of the less fortunate or have had close personal relationships with those who have. Our staff simply wants to give to the community while explicitly supporting life and families in need.
In My Shoes accomplishes this through offering our guests the opportunity to learn and put into habit valuable life skills, such as cooking, cleaning, and caring for oneself, while also ensuring that every expectant or new mother has the necessary parenting skills and resources available to care for her child.
Moms and their babies are able to stay in an In My Shoes home while they learn necessary skills and receive job training to assist with finding employment.
We are a Christ-centered organization based on Catholic Social Teaching.
The tenets of Catholic Social Teaching include:
- Life and Dignity of the Human Person
- Call to Family, Community, and Participation
- Rights and Responsibilities
- Option for the Poor and Vulnerable
- The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers
- Call for God’s Creation
The unique quality about our model that differentiates us from other "maternity" homes is the emphasis on community. We will have live-in staff members to act as supportive role models. We will be providing the tools to teach the women job searching, parenting, budgeting, and other skills using evidence-based practice. Above all, we will provide love and help the women of In My Shoes to make what was broken whole again.
This organization is made up of a team of people with diverse backgrounds who have all come together toward one mission. Our experiences collectively have led us to serve pregnant women in the city we know and love: Dallas, Texas. Ultimately, our faith motivated us and continues to sustain us. We each deeply believe we are on this earth to be the hands and feet of Christ and we couple that with our unshakeable commitment to honoring life, from conception to the grave.
Therefore, our ministry is a natural outpouring of the work Christ has done in our hearts: In My Shoes allows us to serve as Christ would serve and respect the dignity of life, both of the women and babies we will house.
